RESTRICTED CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011
A special mention should be given to Ben Garnham who made it through to the semi final and was undefeated in the group stages. He is still under 17. Only three ladies contested the singles with Chloe Sidwell retaining the title after winning the group. Six strong pairs entered the ladies doubles. Sam Beal and Andrea Hyslop made it through the group stages without losing a game although a couple were very close. Jo Wressell and Sam Allen were the oppostion in a best of three final. In a very close match, Jo and Sam broke Sam and Andrea's winning streak to take the ladies title for a fourth year in a row.
Twelve pairs contested the mens doubles with some very strong pairings. The form book was slightly upset with Paul and Mark Mayfield not making it through the group stages and the youngsters Ben Garnham and Tom Woodcock making it through to the semi finals where they were overpowered by Michael Reid and Leo Medley. Mike and Leo then took the title in a thrilling three setter against Harley Towler and Paul Sturton.
Sunday saw the conclusion of a couple of finals from the previous day but predominantly focused on the mixed doubles. Fourteen couples played in two groups in a battle to make the final stages. Harley Towler and Jo Wressell retained their title emerging victorious over Paul Mayfield and Sam Allen in the final.

An exhibition match featuring England players Donna Kellogg, former Lincs player Alex Langley (now ranked 4th in the country in ladies singles), Ben Stawski, Mark Middleton and Lincolnshire's own Harley Towler took place at Lincoln Uni on 29 September. After 22 school children from local badminton coaching cells had a training session with the England players, Donna and Mark took on Alex and Ben in a game of mixed doubles. Donna and Mark came out on top in three games. Then Harley Towler played Ben Stawski at singles winning in two. Finally some of the school children got to play on the exhibition court with Donna and Alex. The evening ended with Donna taking part in a question and answer session with the audience.
COUNTY RESTRICTED TOURNAMENT 2010
The annual County Restricted Championships were scheduled to take place at North Kesteven Sports Centre, North Hykeham, Lincoln on the weekend of 25/26 September. It did not get off to a good start when competitors arrived at the venue to find it in total darkness due to a major power failure! Frantic efforts were made to try and find somewhere else to stage the event and Lincoln University Sports Centre came to the rescue. The staff and management made sufficient courts available to enable all the scheduled events to take place so many thanks to them for saving the day. A total of 30 competitors took part on the Saturday in four different events.

The mens singles competition was dominated by Harley Towler (Lincoln). He cruised through the group stages to the final, where he played Michael Reid(Grimsby) in a repeat of last year's final. In an excellent display of skill, speed, power and control both players fought an outstanding match with Harley winning 21-9 21-16.
The ladies singles event was contested with the same passion and excitement with Chloe Sidwell (Stamford), at 15 the youngest player in the tournament, emerging victorious. Gemma Traviss (Kirton Lindsey) was runner up.
In the mens doubles the two top seeds made their way fairly comfortably to the final. Harley Towler and Mark Mayfield defeated Stephen Mumby and Chris Welch 21-10 21-15 to clinch the title. This victory ensures that the name Mayfield is engraved on this trophy for the 15th year in succession.
Some local club players entered the ladies doubles competition for the first time which was good to see. Competition was fast and furious with Jo Wressell and Sam Allen retaining their ladies doubles title defeating Cherry Dowson and Sally Shaw 21-23 21-5 21-14 in the final.
The mixed doubles took place at North Kesteven Sports Centre on the Sunday where the power was back on. A field of 20 players battled for 4 hours before the winners were known. In a very close group stage, two pairs from Lincoln Westside Badminton Club contested one semi final with Andrea Hyslop and Mark Mayfield winning through to play Jo Wressell and Harley Towler in the final. In a good contest Jo and Harley proved too powerful for Andrea and Mark winning 21-14 21-13, enabling Harley to effect a clean sweep of trophies this year.
During the entire weekend Harley did not concede a single game at any stage of the competition in any event. It is the first time since 1989 that an individual has held all three titles. This also coincides with Harley's hat trick of singles titles, and all this at the age of just 17.

RESTRICTED CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009
The County Restricted Championships took place at the end of September at North Kesteven Sports Centre, North Hykeham, Lincoln with two days of intense competition. The mens singles title was retained by 16 year old Harley Towler (Lincoln) after an exciting final with Michael Reid (Grimsby) Harley eventually winning 17-21 21-17 21-13. The ladies singles final was another thrilling event between 16 year old Francesca Knight and 14 year old Jessica Portas (both of Grimsby). Francesca won all her matches on the way to the final but Jess emerged victorious 21-17 21-17. Paul and Lee Mayfield won the mens doubles final against brother Mark Mayfield and Simon Turner to take the title for the 13th year in a row and Jo Wressell and Sam Allen retained their ladies doubles title against Jessica Portas and Gemma Traviss with a 21-16 21-18 win. The mixed doubles final featured three of the finalists from last year and on this occasion Harley Towler and Sam Allen beat Nigel Heather and Cherry Dowson 21-17 21-19.
